Homemade Hamburger Buns
Ingredients:
- 1 cup warm water (110°F/45°C)- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/3 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon sesame seeds (optional, for topping)
Directions:
1. In a large bowl, dissolve the yeast and sugar in warm water. Let it sit for about 5 minutes, or until foamy.2. Add the melted butter, egg, salt, and 2 cups of flour to the yeast mixture. Stir until well combined.
3. Gradually add the remaining flour, 1/2 cup at a time, until a soft dough forms.
4. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes, or until smooth and elastic.
5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, turning once to grease the top. Cover with a clean kitchen towel and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
6. Punch down the dough and divide it into 8 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a smooth ball and place on a greased baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
7. Cover the buns with a clean kitchen towel and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
8. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). If desired, brush the tops of the buns with water and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
9. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the buns are golden brown.
10. Remove from the oven and let cool on a wire rack before slicing and serving with your favorite burger patties.
