Inspired by the iconic chocolate cake from Matilda, this moist, rich, and utterly indulgent dessert is a chocolate lover’s dream. Perfect for celebrations or satisfying serious chocolate cravings!

𝗠𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗮'𝘀 𝗥𝗶𝗰𝗵 𝗖𝗵𝗼𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗖𝗮𝗸𝗲:

Ingredients:

  • For the Cake:
  • 1 ¾ cups (220g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ cups (300g) granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup (75g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 ½ tsp baking powder
  • 1 ½ tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup (240ml) whole milk
  • ½ cup (120ml) vegetable oil
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup (240ml) boiling water
  • For the Frosting:
  • 1 cup (230g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 ½ cups (450g) powdered sugar
  • ½ cup (50g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/3 cup (80ml) heavy cream
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions:

For the Cake:
1️⃣ Preheat Oven:

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans or line them with parchment paper.
2️⃣ Mix Dry Ingredients:

In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
3️⃣ Add Wet Ingredients:

Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix until smooth and well combined.
4️⃣ Incorporate Boiling Water:

Gradually stir in the boiling water. The batter will be thin—this ensures a moist, rich cake.
5️⃣ Bake:

Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans. Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
6️⃣ Cool:

Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
For the Frosting:
1️⃣ Cream the Butter:

Beat softened butter with an electric mixer until light and fluffy.
2️⃣ Add Cocoa & Sugar:

Gradually mix in cocoa powder and powdered sugar, a little at a time, to prevent lumps.
3️⃣ Add Cream & Vanilla:

Slowly pour in the heavy cream and vanilla extract. Beat until smooth, creamy, and spreadable.
Assemble the Cake:
1️⃣ Place one cooled cake layer on a serving plate. Spread an even layer of frosting on top.
2️⃣ Place the second cake layer on top and frost the top and sides generously.
3️⃣ Decorate as desired—chocolate shavings, sprinkles, or a drizzle of chocolate ganache make for a stunning finish.
