✅ 2 cups all-purpose flour
✅ 2 cups white sugar
✅ ½ tsp salt
✅ ½ cup buttermilk
✅ 2 large eggs
✅ 1 tsp baking soda
✅ 1 tsp vanilla extract
Frosting:
✅ ½ cup unsalted butter
✅ 6 tbsp milk
✅ 3 tbsp cocoa powder
✅ 1 tsp vanilla extract
✅ 2 cups confectioners' sugar
Instructions 👩🍳
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 10x15-inch cake pan.
Make the cake batter:
In a saucepan, combine butter, water, and cocoa powder over medium heat. Cook until butter melts and mixture boils, then remove from heat and let cool slightly.
In a large bowl, mix together flour, sugar, and salt. In a separate bowl, whisk together buttermilk, eggs, baking soda, and vanilla.
Add the melted butter mixture to the dry ingredients. Then, stir in the buttermilk mixture until fully combined.
Bake the cake:
Pour batter into the prepared pan and bake for about 20 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean. Let the cake cool for 5 minutes.
Prepare the frosting:
While the cake bakes, combine butter, milk, cocoa powder, and vanilla in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir until the butter melts, then mix in confectioners' sugar until smooth.
Frost the cake:
Spread the warm frosting over the slightly cooled cake. Let it set before slicing.
Storage Tip: Cover leftover cake tightly with plastic wrap and store at room temperature for up to 3 days.
Serving Suggestion: Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for a heavenly combo! 🍨
Variation: Add chopped pecans or walnuts to the frosting for an extra crunch!
