A beautiful two-tiered design with a floral theme🎂

Yields: 16-20 servings
Prep time: 30 minutes
Cook time: 25-30 minutes

Ingredients:

  • For the cake:
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 ¾ cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ cup buttermilk
  • For the buttercream frosting:
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3-4 cups powdered sugar
  • ¼ cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Food coloring (optional)

Instructions:

Make the cake:
1.Preheat oven to 350°F (177°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
2.In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
3.In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla.
4.Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the buttermilk, starting and ending with the dry ingredients.
5.Divide batter evenly between the prepared pans. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
6.Let cakes cool in pans for 10 minutes before inverting onto wire racks to cool completely.

Make the buttercream frosting:

1.In a large bowl, cream together butter and powdered sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in milk and vanilla extract. Add food coloring if desired.

Assemble and decorate the cake:

1.Once cakes are completely cool, level the tops if necessary. Place one cake layer on a serving plate. Spread a layer of frosting on top. Top with the second cake layer and spread a layer of frosting on top.
2.Frost the sides and top of the cake with remaining frosting.
3.To create the floral decorations:
-Roll out some of the frosting into a thin sheet.
-Cut out flower shapes using a cookie cutter.
-Attach the flowers to the cake using a small amount of frosting or edible glue.
-Create a bow out of fondant or frosting and place it on top of the cake.
