Zesty Lemon Glazed Cinnamon Rolls

Ingredients:

Dough:

  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour

Filling:

  • 1/4 cup butter, softened
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon zest

Glaze:

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon cream

Directions:

In a large bowl, dissolve yeast in warm milk. Add sugar, melted butter, vanilla, egg, salt, and flour. Mix until a soft dough forms. Knead until smooth and elastic, about 6 minutes.
Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
Roll out dough on a floured surface into a 12x18 inch rectangle. Spread softened butter over the dough, then sprinkle with sugar and lemon zest.
Roll the dough tightly from the long edge and cut into 12 equal slices. Place rolls in a greased 9x13 inch baking dish.
Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes.
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake rolls for 25 minutes, or until golden brown.
Mix powdered sugar, lemon juice, and cream to make the glaze.
Drizzle over warm rolls before serving.
