Black Velvet Cake 🍰🍫
Just whipped up a batch of Black Velvet Cake with Oreo Cream Cheese Frosting. Perfect for making any celebration extra decadent!
Ingredients:
- 3 cups All-purpose flour
- 1 tsp Baking soda
- ¾ cup Black Cocoa
- ½ tsp Kosher salt
- 1 tsp Espresso powder
- ½ cup Butter, room temperature
- 1 cup Vegetable oil
- 2 cups Sugar
- 4 Eggs
- 1 tbsp Vanilla extract
- 1 tbsp Vinegar
- 1 cup Buttermilk
Oreo Frosting:
- ¾ cup Butter, cold
- 12 oz Cream cheese, cold
- 6 cups Powdered sugar
- 2-3 tbsp Heavy cream
- 2 tsp Vanilla extract
- A pinch of Salt
- 8 Oreo cookies, crushed
Directions:
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). In a large bowl, mix flour, baking soda, black cocoa, kosher salt, and espresso powder. Set aside.
In a stand mixer with the paddle attachment, cream together room temperature butter and vegetable oil for 3 minutes until smooth. Then add sugar and continue to mix for 2 minutes.
Add eggs one at a time, followed by vanilla extract and vinegar, mixing until combined.
Alternately add half of the dry ingredients and half of the buttermilk to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined after each addition.
Divide the batter equally among three 8-inch pans prepped with nonstick baking spray. Bake for 30-33 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow to cool in pans for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
For the frosting, in a stand mixer, cream together cold butter and cream cheese. Gradually add powdered sugar, then heavy cream, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt. Fold in crushed Oreo cookies.
Once cooled, layer the cakes with Oreo frosting, chilling for 30 minutes before adding the final layer of frosting. Optional: Pipe additional frosting on top for decoration.
